“The Merge,” the original name of the hard fork, is an updаte that involves the transition of the Ethereum network from PoW to PoS. Of course, Ethereum’s hard fork is the month’s news for the entire crypto industry. The Merge is believed to be the most difficult change in Ethereum history.
What is a hard fork? It is a process in which the nodes of the newest version of the blockchain no longer accept the old version (or versions) of the blockchain, creating a permanent divergence from the previous version of the blockchain. The so-called “fork” separates the two versions. The first part of the Merge updаte was on September 6 with the Bellatrix updаte, which marked the so-called “hard fork” that would move Ethereum from a proof-of-work (PoW) base to a proof-of-stake (PoS) base in the future.
Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, wrote about the dates of the hard fork in his tweet. The second part of the updаte will happen between September 13 and 15.
